Introduction

Canned introductions are difficult.  So lemme tell you a story… since I like stories.

A long time ago, in a galaxy far away I was speaking to a large group.  I remember it vividly.  My heart burned because what I spoke of mattered.  I was fired up and so was the audience.  I’d lay something out and they’d shout back.  As the intensity grew, an awesome thing happened.  I was no longer speaking to them – we were having a conversation – deep, shared, and oddly unspoken and understood.  Overwhelmed I paused mid-thought, laughed, and exclaimed, “man, this is fun!”  And on we went.   An attempt to describe what it meant will only diminish it so I’ll just say that for me it was transcendent… and fun.

It’s moments like the one above that fuel my passion for therapy.  Moments where what is happening is more than it’s component parts – a room, chairs, and a couple people talking.  What’s more, it can show up in unexpected places.  Sure it can happen in moments of wonder and insight.  But it also happens in the middle of pain, problem solving, skills building or just… laughter.

Oh… for those who want a list of qualifications 🙂

About Therapy

It’s difficult to describe therapy.  Each person is different, thus the interactions are different.  Even the interactions between the same person and therapist vary as our feelings, thoughts, and experiences are in a constant state of flux.

I’ve been joking with friends lately about a T-shirt I recently saw: “I’m in that awkward stage between birth and death.”  There’s three reasons I like it.  It’s humorous.  It’s honest.  And whoever originally wrote it, was leaning into whatever it was they were experiencing in the moment.

While it’s impossible to describe exactly what your time will be like should you come for a visit – I hope to provide humor, honesty, and a spirit of leaning-in as part of the experience.
